Minecraft Caves and Cliffs: Top 5 Things Coming in the 1.17 Update

Minecraft is approaching its biggest update yet in 2021 – the 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update, originally revealed at Minecraft Live in 2020.

With all of the huge changes coming, we’ve broken down the top 5 things coming in the Caves and Cliffs Update.

#5 – Copper

Minecraft Caves and Cliffs will bring some new resources to the game, and the most interesting is Copper.

While Copper won’t be the most useful resource with some limited build options – it brings an entirely new mechanic to Minecraft – resource aging.

Copper ages when exposed to the outside, so building with it won’t be a permanent solution.

Along with Copper aging and decaying, each stage has new visuals, which is another unique property players can take advantage of when using Copper to build.

#4 – Axolotls

Axolotls are a new aquatic animal coming to Minecraft in the Caves and Cliffs Update. And while Axolotls are cute, and look harmless, don’t put them in your aquarium with any other animals!

Axolotls are an aquatic predator, and will hunt down fish, squids, and whatever else swims too close. When kept on their own, however, Axolotls make for an awesome pet and their different colors all look awesome in-game.

#3 – Goats

Minecraft is also picking up another new animal in the Caves and Cliffs Update – Goats!

Minecraft Goat Mob

Goats might not sound like an exciting addition to the game, but underestimate goats in Minecraft, and you might be falling down a mountain fast.

Goats are a neutral mob that won’t attack players on-sight. They will, however charge and push back any other mobs that pass by.

Because Minecraft goats like to climb to high, precarious places, Goats will make for some very interesting Minecraft experiences.

Some creative players will go the extra mile to take advantage of Goats as a new security force around bases.

#2 – The Warden, Deep Dark Biome

Minecraft is getting a new enemy, and it’s one of the scariest yet!

Minecraft Warden Mob

The Warden can be found in one of many new biomes coming in the 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update, the Deep Dark.

The Warden can’t see, but tracks players from the sounds they make stepping around in the Deep Dark, with Skulk blocks working as sensors for The Warden.

Once you enter the Deep Dark, the massive Warden will present a very lethal threat if you aren’t very prepared for a big fight.

Even if you are prepared, though, The Warden is a frightening enemy that can overwhelm players in an instant if they’re found.

#1 – New Cave Generation Systems

Perhaps the most underrated change coming in the Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update is the new system for cave generation.

This will fundamentally alter how Minecraft worlds are created, with caves and other geographic formations coming together in new ways.

The new cave generation system will create more realistic, immersive caves for players to explore for resources.

Based on how Mojang have described the new cave generation system in Caves and Cliffs, it’s without a doubt the crown jewel of the 1.17 update.

Whilst you are researching these new features, make sure to stay safe on the internet! Amazon Web Services recently had to defend against a DDoS attack with a peak traffic volume of 2.3 Tbps, the largest ever recorded.
