Just when Mojang said there wouldn’t be any more major announcements, they went and dropped another mountain of content! Today we explore Minecraft 1.20 snapshot 23W12A and all the new features it brings our way.
New Smithing Templates
Trail Ruins:
- Wayfinder Armor Trim
- Raiser Armor Trim
- Shaper Armor Trim
- Host Armor Trim
Ancient City
- Silence Armor Trim
Joining the previous eleven armor trim templates are five more! One in ancient cities and four from an entirely new structure called Trail Ruins. These new structures will generate just below the ground in the overworld and are described as ruins from a lost culture.
Vibration Resonance & Calibrated Sculk Sensor Block
Starting with amethyst, it will now re-emit vibration frequencies over long distances if placed adjacent to a sculk sensor.
Sculk sensors themselves can also be crafted into an entirely new block called calibrated sculk sensors using three amethyst shards. Once complete, they will listen for specific vibration frequencies determined by the Redstone powering it.
Archaeology Expanded
What many thought was destined for another update is instead arriving now! Archaeology has been fully fleshed out, with suspicious sand and gravel being found around ocean monuments and trail ruins as well. This comes complete with an expanded loot table, including 16 new pottery shards for a total of 20 different pots!
Pitcher Plants
Sniffers have gone ahead and sniffed up a new seed for players to plant! Pitcher plants grow in five stages and end up being two blocks tall.
Sign Customization
Finally, a feature demanded since the game’s release has found its way into Minecraft 1.20. Signs can now be edited after being placed, words can be typed on both sides, and a honeycomb can be used to finalize the sign. It is hard to imagine this long-awaited change is actually on its way!
