A mysterious key has appeared within Minecraft, but what does it open, and where is it found? Today, we answer those questions and more in our “How to Find Trial Keys” guide.
Preparations
Finding a Trial Key is not as easy as it may seem! Generating exclusively within Trial Chambers, an abundance of mobs will stand in your way. However, with the right items and tools, one could say the challenge becomes a breeze.
First, players will want a pickaxe strong enough to break through deep slate. Trial Chambers spawn far below ground, so this step can’t be skipped! Next are food, torches, and any other items you may typically take when exploring underground. Finally, those taking on the Trial Chamber immediately would benefit from bringing weapons and armor. Iron is enough, but diamond would make it far easier.
Locating Trial Chambers
Trial Chambers generate randomly between layers -20 and -40 of the overworld. Sadly, there are no above-ground indications that a Trial Chamber is somewhere near or below, leaving cave exploring and mining the best methods for finding the structure’s copper and chiseled tuff walls.
We personally recommend mining tunnels along layer -30. Due to the structure’s enormous size, chances are you will hit one while getting some mining done along the way.
Finding Trial Keys
Once a Trial Chamber has been found, be ready for a variety of rooms filled with loot and combat challenges. However, it is specifically the Trial Spawners you will want to find. Trial Keys do occasionally generate within pots and chests throughout the dungeon, but the chances are low compared to a Trial Spawner, which has a 50% chance of generating one key after defeating the mobs within.
This remains consistent for all Trial Spawners, including those with the Breeze.
Using Trial Keys
Sadly, Trial Keys do not yet have a use. However, the moment they do, we will have it listed here.
