Sniffers are a new mob in Minecraft 1.20 that does not spawn naturally in any dimension! So, today we explore how to find sniffers in Minecraft 1.20. Be warned! It’s quite the journey!
Preparing to Find Sniffers
Finding your very first sniffer is no easy feat! To do so, you will need some items and a bit of Minecraft knowledge about the deep sea.
First, players will need to craft a brush from the new archeology feature added in Minecraft 1.20. This is crafted on a crafting table using a stick, copper bar, and feather in that order from bottom to top.
The brush is technically the only item required for finding a sniffer egg, but some others are recommended, which we have listed below.
- Brush [Required]
- Pickaxe
- Shovel
- Water Breathing Potions
- Night Vision Potions
- An Aqua Affinity & Respiration enchanted helmet
How to Find Sniffers
Sniffers are long extinct, but some of their eggs still exist for players to find! Those seeking them will need to venture forth in search of lost structures known as warm ocean ruins. These are the sandstone buildings often seen scattered across the bottom of warm ocean biomes.
Once a warm ocean ruin is found, swim on down and look around for suspicious sand blocks hidden in and around the structure. Then, with your brush in hand, wipe away the suspicious sand to reveal the item hidden within.
Keep in mind it is not guaranteed to be a sniffer egg, so be ready to brush away at quite a few.
Hatching Sniffers
When a sniffer egg has been found, return it to the shore. There it can be placed on the ground, where it will slowly hatch over the course of twenty minutes. Those looking to speed up the process can reduce the hatching time to ten minutes by placing the egg on a moss block instead.
Once hatched, the baby snifflet will give you a sniff and become your new seed-finding friend.
How to Find Sniffers in Minecraft 1.20
Sniffers have the most animations and personality of any mob added to date, but with that in mind, do you believe Mojang should revisit old mobs to do the same? We would love to hear what you have to think!
